Our Mission

The Mission of the Tuolumne Utilities District is to Provide:

Responsible Water and Wastewater Services for our Customers with Great Customer Service in a Socially, Financially, and Environmentally Responsive Manner at a Fair Value.

History

TUD was organized under California’s County Water District Law on July 1, 1992 in response to a voter initiative requiring the consolidation of two local public water systems, the Tuolumne Regional Water District (previously known as Tuolumne County Water District No. 2) and the Tuolumne Water System. Through its history, the water system, which is now operated by TUD, has changed from a utility serving mainly mining operations to one that serves the residential, commercial and industrial sectors of Tuolumne County.

About TUD

Tuolumne Utilities District (TUD) is a water and wastewater utility serving nearly 44,000 residents in northern California’s Tuolumne County. A scenic drive along Highway 108, heading east from the Stanislaus County line to Pinecrest Lake and Dodge Ridge, takes you through the heart of TUD‘s service area and gives you an overview of the extraordinary geographic diversity of the region.

Water has been and continues to be an undeniable force in shaping the economic, ecological and cultural face of our county. From the earliest days of habitation by American Indians to the discovery of gold in Columbia that sparked the California gold rush, from clusters of black oak and manzanita to pine forests in the Sierra Nevada range, from abundant vineyards and orchards to growing population centers—water is the essential link.

TUD customer needs are as broad ranging as the area’s diversity. We provide drinking water for homes, schools and businesses and recycled water from our wastewater treatment plant to irrigate prime agricultural lands near Jamestown. In all we do, we strive to meet or exceed federal and state standards for water and wastewater quality, environmental protection and wildlife habitat.
