TUD REQUESTS WATER CONSERVATION DUE TO PG&E’S FLUME DAMAGE

SONORA, CA: The Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) Main Tuolumne Canal, which provides 95% of the Tuolumne Utilities District’s (TUD or District) drinking water, was severely damaged during the recent winter storm. This storm caused more than 200 trees to fall onto the canal and multiple sections of the wooden flumes, requiring PG&E to completely stop the flow of water to the canal that supplies TUD’s ditches. Because of this, TUD is currently experiencing a “Ditch Outage” and is asking all customers to reduce their water use while PG&E works to make critical repairs.

TUD has also experienced similar issues with downed trees, snow and limited access to its systems and crews have been working around the clock to ensure its ditch system is ready to accept water once it returns from PG&E’s canal. Both PG&E and TUD understand that system repairs are urgent and are working diligently to make repairs as soon as possible while ensuring the safety of our employees.

With no water flowing in the TUD ditches, the only water available is what is stored in tanks and from a few small-capacity groundwater wells. It is essential for everyone to conserve water when possible, during this time to ensure there is enough for drinking, basic sanitation, and fire protection until repairs are complete.

Here’s how you can help:
– Limit outside watering
– Do not wash vehicles
– Adjust irrigation practices
– Fix Leaks Promptly

TUD is grateful for the community’s support and cooperation while we secure and restore the water system. For more information and updates, visit Home – TUD
