Tuolumne Utilities District is excited to announce that the Mono Vista Tank Replacement Project is near completion and the new tank is online and operational. The project entailed the demolition of the existing Mono Vista Tanks #1 and #2 and the construction of a new 400,000‑gallon bolted steel tank. The new tank is unique in that it was constructed with exterior roof rafters, the third tank of this kind within the District’s system.
The Mono Vista Tank #1 was drained and demolished in December 2019 and the smaller Mono Vista Tank #2 was drained on Monday and is set to be demolished today. The Mono Vista Tank supplies treated water to the communities of Crystal Falls, Ridgewood, Willow Springs, Sonora Vista, and Ranchos Poquitos. The TUD Board of Directors awarded the project in June 2019 to Njirich & Sons, Inc., a local contractor, in the amount of $811,993.17.
The Mono Vista Tank Replacement Project was identified by District staff as a high priority project after a dive inspection revealed the failing condition of the existing tank interior. This tank is a key component of the District’s distribution system and provides the District with the needed storage during the annual ditch outage.
