Tuolumne Utilities District hired local contractor Sierra Mountain Construction Inc. (SMCI) of Sonora in September to complete the Riddle Tank and Pump Station Consolidation project. The project was identified in this year’s TUD Capital Improvement Plan to increase water reliability in the area. The steel bolted Riddle Tank in Sugar Pine, originally put into service in 1987, was classified as being in “poor” condition on its most recent tank inspection report. Customers relying on the Riddle Tank experience frequent power interruptions and in turn a lack of adequate water supply. The construction of an intertie with the Mi Wuk Mutual Water Company has been completed which will now provide and maintain adequate reliable storage and water supply to these Sugar Pine Distribution System customers. On October 29th, the Riddle Tank and pump station were demolished and disconnected from the District’s distribution system.
