Thursday, September 5, 2019:
Tuolumne Utilities District will begin the replacement of water pipelines starting today, Thursday, September 5th under the roadway in the downtown area of Sonora on Washington Street between Cowan Street and Wyckoff Street. A 200 foot new water main pipeline will be installed that will replace a water line that has failed multiple times over the past several years. The District has hired Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) for the water pipeline replacement project.
The south bound shoulder of Washington Street in downtown Sonora will be closed between the hours of 7:00AM & 2:30PM on weekdays from Thursday September 5th to Thursday September 12th. Night work will also take place on the night of Sunday, September 8th and will require closing the south bound traffic lane. Single lane traffic control will be used during that time.
Parking on the shoulder will be restricted intermittently during this time, and pedestrian traffic will be diverted to the east side of North Washington Street. Businesses and residences in this area should have accessibility at all times. Motorists should expect up to 15-minute delays during this lane closures. Thank you for your cooperation and patience as this project is completed.
