TUD CREWS WORKING HARD ACROSS SERVICE AREA FOLLOWING EXTREME WEATHER – PLEASE CONSERVE WATER

UDPATE: MARCH 2, 2023 11:00 A.M.

The Tuolumne Utilities District’s (TUD) mainline break that occurred earlier in the week in the Crystal Falls area remains inaccessible for repair.    Currently there is no estimated time of restoration of water service to approximately 20 TUD water customers due to downed powerlines and restricted access by PG&E.  See below listing of affected addresses.  The mainline suffered severe damage resulting from heavy snow uprooting a large nearby tree, breaking the pipe in half.

TUD continues to stress the importance of conservation while they await permission to access the site to make the necessary repairs to get the water flowing to customers and nearby tanks filled.  General Manager, Don Perkins states, “Water supply remains a concern due to low water storage levels brought about by this mainline break as well as ice and snow that must be manually broken up in the ditches that provide water to the water treatment plants.”   Specific areas of concern that require immediate conservation efforts are Lower Crystal Falls, Sonora Vista, Willow Springs, Mono Vista, Soulsbyville and the Curtis Creek Ranches.

TUD crews continue to work throughout the day and overnight, floating snow, plowing snow to access district facilities, isolating leaks, assessing damages, and making repairs until customers are restored. SONORA, CA:  MARCH 1. 2023

Tuolumne Utilities District (TUD) crews continue to work around the clock to maintain and restore water service to customers affected by the series of heavy winter storms that have hit the County.  As of this morning, approximately 20 customers on Middlecamp Rd. and Rhine River Ct. are without out water as a result of the harsh weather conditions.  See below listing of affected addresses.  Crews have isolated the area, however because of downed power lines, deep snow and restricted access to the area by PG&E, there is no estimated time of repair.  TUD asks customers to conserve water usage at this time due to low water storage levels brought about by mainline breaks and struggling frozen ditches as a result of the recent bitterly cold temperatures.  “We are currently relying on stored water,” says General Manger, Don Perkins.  “Now is not the time to leave your faucets running to prevent pipes from freezing.”  Additionally, the District is asking the public to report any leaks that they see.

Field crews have been working 24/7 on other hard-hit areas in response to the extreme weather including assessing and repairing mainline breaks and leaks, repairing damage to various ditches, breaking through ice and floating snow to ensure that water keeps flowing to customers, however due to hazardous conditions such as downed trees, road blockages, power outages and deep snow at various locations throughout the county, restoration progress will be slow.  Perkins adds, “With hazardous conditions wreaking havoc across our service area, I am grateful for our dedicated staff time and time again.”

TUD appreciates your patience and support as crews continue to respond as quickly and safely as possible.  We will continue to provide updates on water outage restoration as crews make progress at www.tudwater.com and via Facebook.
