The City of Sonora Fire Flow Improvements Project

The Sonora Residential Fire Flow Improvement Project was completed to enhance fire protection capabilities and improve water distribution infrastructure within residential neighborhoods throughout the City of Sonora. The project included the replacement of antiquated wet barrel fire hydrants and upgrades to undersized 4-inch water mains with larger 8-inch mains in targeted low-pressure zones to increase available fire flow and support firefighting operations.

Working in partnership, the City of Sonora and Tuolumne Utilities District (TUD) completed infrastructure improvements designed to meet modern fire flow standards, improve system pressures, and strengthen public safety for residents. These upgrades addressed aging infrastructure, increased water delivery capacity in critical areas, and improved the community’s ability to respond to residential fire emergencies.
